Jane Wyatt
Jane is an only child who was brought up for fifteen years by her father, a skilled chess player named Lewis. After her father was cruelly taken away from her, Jane learnt to live independently and also put her work as a criminal psychologist above her relationships.

At thirty she is now focused and determined to catch Lewis' killer. Learning that her father spent his final night playing chess with an unknown pro, she is ready to track down and outwit the killer.

Victor Blake

Victor is a chess master with a troubled past. After having a difficult childhood living with his demanding mother, he has spent the past fifty years becoming a seemingly unbeatable chess player. However, when he finally is beaten, the pain of defeat drives him insane.
